Who I Am

Hello. M. Vann Leicester Here.

M. Vann Leicester

Here And Now, Fresh From History.

Greetings.

The most important thing you should know: There is no "role" that perfectly fits or applies.

Whether for full-time employment or contract work, there is a diversity of experience, collected and refined over time, and that experience doesn't fit into any single category. Many recruiters/contract companies try to fill a "role" or knows "tools", rather than find someone who can solve specific business problems regardless of a role.

Consider a plumber. You wouldn't (normally) call a plumber and tell them you need someone with a pipe wrench. You will tell them you have a leak, you will get quotes, (normally) based on the nature and severity of your problem(s). They will decide, based on their learned skillsets, which tool(s) can best solve your specific problem(s), and provide you a bill once they're done. That's the general idea.

When engaged for work (full-time or contract), there is already a range of expected pay that can be shared with you; it is largely non-negotiable, because it is based on the expected work and the level of effort, not what others might have been paid, especially when the experience is not equivalent. Also, if relocation is required, the final rate will be priced according to the cost of housing in the area, not median salaries. Rates are lower for 100% remote, as the majority of skillsets available do not require physical presence.

Recent events such as the pandemic have caused desperation with people accepting lower pay than they should; this then lends to lower quality in your solution. To coin a phrase: you get what you pay for.

If you reach out, please provide the business problem(s), not the toolset, not the "role", not a "job title", but business problem(s), need(s), outcome(s), that you require skills for. A range will be provided, and can be refined if the work scope is minimized down to core essential needs.

For contract work, any tasks that are not related to the specified work can and will be refused; if these are imposed, additional charges will apply until they are ceased.
